The 2017 Roleplay Symposium's "Observations on Gameplay" panel (transcript) fostered roleplayer interest in Raiding/Defending (R/D). Madhouse Denizens as well as roleplayers in general has asked to know more about R/D, and wanted to know our policy on raiding.
Our existing Charter, §IX R/D (Gameplay) NationStates outlines our stance on the matter: We do not participate in R/D gameplay on NationStates. Players that raid or defend are welcome to join our organization to enhance their roleplay experience and skill. We support every member's right to participate in R/D. We recognize gameplay as one facet of NationStates.
We also ask that raiders respect our efforts to remain non-participatory in R/D. This includes not using our region (or training/theme regions) as a jump point. We do a soft "opt out" by keeping our region population down to core members and Founders, and locking it. Really, the region page only serves as a hub rather than a gathering spot.
Some people have asked about our odd "raider response" policy:
We encourage our players to involve themselves in the fun world of gameplay. Really, it's enjoyable, if you find the right group. In an effort to help you do that:
PANELS
The 2017 NSRPS panel, moderated by Swith Witherward, offered roleplayers insight into R/D. Several people have approached her to ask for a repeat. As the Symposium is over, Madhouse leadership is weighing options for hosting a Saturday panel - a repeat, basically, of what you saw before. We'll invite gameplayers in to answer your questions. This panel will take place on a new Discord server, and it will be open to the entire roleplay community on NationStates, as well as to raiders and defenders seeking to know a bit more about our facet of NationStates.
GAMEPLAYER SUPPORT
Raiders and defenders do not have to join Madhouse to receive assistance with anything we offer, though joining does mean access to our Discord server and a variety of channels set up for various topics.
Gameplayers are encouraged to contact us if they'd like help coding their OSF or WFE, or someone to assist with moderating panels on their servers. We're a diverse community and our membership covers a wide swath of skills.
GAMEPLAYER EVENTS
We would gladly welcome the opportunity to place a booth at your convention or symposium. We'll also advertise your event, if you'd like.

Some people have asked about our odd "raider response" policy:
- Yes, we're dead serious when we ask Members to go silent if raided. Allow your leadership to handle it. We are comprised of experienced roleplayers as well as old school raiders and defenders. We've done this waltz before.
- Being raided can be fun! Seriously, not all raider orgs are fuckwhistles. If you behave like a baboon's ballsack by flaming them or baiting them, you'll be treated as such by the raiders. They'll have every right to report anything that crosses the OSRS line.
- While nobody appreciates a long siege, it is a good opportunity to expose our membership to gameplay. Part of that is learning good sportsmanship: do not run to the forums and whine about the occupation. Instead, sit back and watch how Fenda's do their thing.
- The RMB is IC, regardless of what the WFE says at the time. You can expect us to camp it up, in character, without crossing the line. The purpose is to make light of the situation, and to perhaps expose our uninvited guests to Madhouse's purpose.
- Really, most of this is pointless as we tend to lock our training/roleplay support regions anyway. Our WFE code is backed up. Our delegate lacks power. Don't fret over it.

RAIDING
Madhouse Productions endorses The Black Hawks. This organization's history on NS is extensive.
TBH leadership and upper echelon teach the art of raiding. Given Madhouse's own aims as a teaching organization, we commend TBH's dedication towards shaping the raider side of gameplay. They are patient and not prone to mocking noobs struggling to grasp terminology or tactics. They provide step-by-step lessons on their OSF, and reinforce that learning by allowing you to practice in real-time. They go out of their way to set up these practice runs, at your convenience.
You can contact them via their region page, The Black Hawks. They offer a Discord server to help you with questions as well. Links to the server and their OSF are made available on that region page.

DEFENDING
Madhouse Productions recommends Renegade Islands Alliance if you are interested in learning about Defending. We recommend contacting them, should your region fall under raider control. Madhouse Productions does not aid in the liberation of any region.
