For those using mobile devices, you might find the in-browser IRC client to be cumbersome, especially since it tends to hang and log you out if you exit from your current window to browse something else momentarily.
There's a variety of IRC clients available for mobile devices. The one I choose to use for my Android phone is HoloIRC (this is not a paid endorsement). It's both free and convenient and provides all the same features available on the browser client. Instructions for easy usage are below:
To set up the Server
Have fun, and happy chatting!
Additional note by Cer on the Gog forum:
If you're like me, you hate having to split screens or pull up apps while setting up configurations.
The servers overlap and you can draw from them even if you're far away. However, it's better to pick one closer.
Quick List for Yanks:
Back East: brutus.esper.net - server in IL, does fine all the way into Canada. Very smooth if in Ontario, though sketchy during peak hours.
Midwest: aperture.esper.net - server in IA. Used it once. Smooth.
Middle America/Down South: chaos.esper.net - server in TX. It does cover Florida alright, but brutus.esper.net was just as good.
West Coast: ranger.esper.net - in CA. Good coverage all the way out to HI from what I hear.
Northwest: nova.esper.net - in WA. No experience with it.
Quick List for Europeans:
UK, Ireland, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, France: insanity.esper.net. Yeah, it has good coverage. Very heavy traffic. It's out of Belgium.
Same as above, also Italy and the weirdness to the east: anarchy.esper.net. Use this one, even if you're in the UK. Not as much traffic. I had zero trouble with it while in Germany.
Nordic fun: availo.esper.net. No experience with it.
More Nordic: portlane.esper.net. No experience with it.
If you experience troubles, or you're having issues while abroad, you can inquire here: #DragonWeyr.
Of course, if you can't connect, how can you access their help room?

There's a variety of IRC clients available for mobile devices. The one I choose to use for my Android phone is HoloIRC (this is not a paid endorsement). It's both free and convenient and provides all the same features available on the browser client. Instructions for easy usage are below:
To set up the Server
- After installing and opening HoloIRC, you will see a plus sign inside a circle in the upper right corner. This is to add a new server to your serverlist. There's a couple of defaults already to the left that you'll see that come with the app. Click the plus sign.
- Enter the following information:
Server Title: [whatever name jogs your memory] (this is for you, so you know which server to start up when you open the app)
Server URL: use whatever Esper.net server is closest to you (for California: ranger.esper.net, for Texas: chaos.esper.net, etc)
You can find your nearest Esper.net server here: esper.net/servers.php
Server Port: 6697
Nick Names: [your IRC name to show when you log in] (multiple must be entered in case your first choice is taken)
Real Name: [actual name that will show on your account when people do WHOIS? commands on you]
Username: [your user name if you have a registered account, in case you're a mod like Swith, Tilt, or Cer]
Password: [optional, only if you have a username] - Enable "Use SSL" and "Accept all SSL certificates". DO THIS OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LOG IN
- Click "Auto-join channels" and click the plus button that appears in the upper right-hand corner of the new screen. Add "#NSP" to the auto-join channel list.
- You're done! Go back to the main screen and you should see the server added to your server list. Simply click to connect, and you'll log in automatically.
- To part from the channel but stay on the server (if, let's say, you want to log into a different channel or continue to private message someone but not be on the main channel), simply click the "Actions" button in the upper right corner of the channel and scroll down and click the "Part channel" button. This will log you off the channel.
- To log out from the server, which is the only way to log in from any other device, swipe left and select the name of your server (you're currently in a channel if you see anyone typing away). While in the server command area, you should see a bunch of links and nonsense as well as the words "End of /MOTD command". This means you're in the server, not a channel. To log out from a server, simply click "Actions" and click "Disconnect". This will log you out from the server.
IMPORTANT NOTE ON CONNECTIVITY
Make sure you have a stable connection. If you're logging on and off constantly, it might be best to disable any options you have for automatically switching between Wifi and 4G (I always use 4G when I'm out to ensure a smooth connection, and it doesn't take up that much data anyways). Any switches on network or from network to roaming data will result in you being kicked off the server and forced to reconnect under a new nickname due to your old connection not yet timing out.
Have fun, and happy chatting!
